Parkinson’s Boxing

In 2008, OFT founder Onyedikachi Ibeji established the Parkinson’s boxing program, a technique that has now been adopted nationwide. As seen on ABC News, The Miami Herald, The Washington Post, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, CBS News and WPLG 10, the Kinesio Arts program is a boxing program designed for people with Parkinson’s disease that seems to be sweeping the nation! This full-body workout, recently highlighted in Akron Beacon Journal, tests balance, agility and hand-eye coordination, all of which can be affected by Parkinson’s. It also can build muscle strength, potentially help speech (some say grunting or yelling while punching aids with vocal projection) and even offer an outlet for frustration toward symptoms or disease.
